Des Moines Weight loss/ Des Moines Gym
?
This week I spent some time talking with a new personal training client about how to get results. We talked on multiple occasions about fitness, weight loss, the best gym in Des Moines, personal training, motivation, results, and one thing that kept coming up was consistency.
How is it that some people can stay consistent year in and year out and maintain results while others go in spurts with the constant 2 steps forward one step back approach? Why is it that some people no matter what is going on find the time to work out? What is different about these people as opposed to the 90% of the population?
?
Consistency is the difference. It?s not what you do once in a while that shapes your life it?s what you do consistently day in and day out rain or shine.
So the real question is how can you stay consistent? Well I have learned from experience personally and experience working with clients for many years what I believe to be the secret to staying consistent.
Success always leaves clues, I have spent a lot of time looking at who gets results and what things they all have in common? What one thing is consistent in all the people who get and keep results?
THEY HAVE FUN AND ENJOY THE PROCESS? that?s right. ?They learn to enjoy the process of working out, they look forward to going to the gym, they focus on the results of the hard work when they feel like quitting, they don?t think of working out as painful. These people have learned to associate more pleasure to working and more pain to not working out that they feel bad when they don?t work out.
I also noticed what the people who never succeed have in common. They view working out as drudgery they think of it as something they have to do to keep from getting diabetes, they have a vacation coming up or they do it to look good for the opposite sex. These reasons are shallow and will only keep you motivated for a short time.
If you want to lose weight and keep it off for the rest of your life then you need to model the people who have succeeded in the weight loss battle, and adopt the same beliefs they have about fitness. If you are reading this I am sure you have at one point felt this same way about working out. I am sure you have looked forward to hitting the gym at some point, right?
On the other hand I am sure you have also had days that you wanted to do everything but work out. What was the difference? It sounds simplistic but the only difference was how you were looking at working out, how you were thinking about it, what you were focusing on was all the negatives. The pain, the sweat, the shortness of breath, the lactic acid building up in your muscles, your muscles completely giving out and looking up to see 30 seconds left on the clock, puking in the bathroom or the always hated burpees. The list could go on and on so for the sake of time I will stop there.
But not only are you constantly thinking about these things, you are probably vividly imagining them in your head making them bigger and worse than they really are and starting to even experience some anxiety and pain about it.
So to sum it all up the secret to staying consistent with your workout routine is to make it fun and enjoy the process. Focus on the pleasure you get out of it and not the pain otherwise you?ll end up overweight and unhappy. That?s it for this weeks No B.S Des Moines Weight Loss Blog #2.
