LONDON -- A British teenager was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of making "malicious" remarks, after a death threat to U.K. Olympic medal hopeful Tom Daley appeared on Twitter.?

The profanity-strewn tweets -- on an account NBC News has chosen not to identify -- also included the claim that the athlete had let down his dead father after Daley came fourth in the men's synchronized 10-meter dive.

Daley rose to fame in the U.K. when he competed at the 2008 Beijing Games at the age of 14.

Shortly after Monday's final, a message appeared on the Twitter account?saying, ?@TomDaley1994 you let your dad down i hope you know that.??

The account was available to only confirmed followers Tuesday, but retweets of some of the messages showed the abuse continued with one talking about drowning Daley in a swimming pool.

The messages are part of an increasing trend in which celebrities and others are abused by so-called "trolls," who send abusive messages behind the seeming anonymity of social media sites.

Daley retweeted the message about his father?and said ?After giving it my all...you get idiot's sending me this.?

He then retweeted a number of messages from people calling for the Twitter account involved to be banned.

The Olympic judo quarter-final between world champion Masashi Ebinuma and Cho Jun-Ho of South Korea descended into farce on Sunday after Cho was awarded victory, only for his Japanese rival to be declared the winner moments later.

All three judges on the mat awarded the bout to Cho, clad in blue, but the International Judo Federation's Refeering Commission then intervened.

Following frantic discussions on the sidelines, referees director Juan Carlos Barcos, who had been seen consulting federation president Marius Vizer, called the judges over and seemingly told them to change their minds.

The three judges then went back onto the mat and having originally all lifted blue flags denoting a Cho victory, this time thrust up three white ones instead.

Ebinuma was declared the winner and although he lost to eventual gold medallist Lasha Shavdatuashvili of Georgia in the semis, both he and Cho went on to take the two bronze medals.

When the original decision was made it brought protests from the crowd and Ebinuma felt that helped him.

"I thought I was going to lose but there was all this support in the spectator seats and that allowed me to get this medal," he said.

"But I'm feeling a bit bad for (Cho)."

Having matched Ebinuma's medal, the Korean let sleeping dogs lie.

"Initially I thought I had won but when it was reversed I was a little sad," he said.

"But I had my remaining fights to focus on and I hoped (Ebinuma) would get a good result because he beat me. We both won bronze so I'm happy."

Federation general secretary Jean-Luc Rouge told AFP the move was made as it was believed an Ebinuma attack had not been scored.

"The referees weren't told to change their minds, they were merely reminded about an incident (an attack by Ebinuma that could have scored) that should have influenced their decision," he said.

"It had escaped their minds but having reconsidered it they then gave their modified verdicts."

When put to him that the incident had been damaging for the federation, Rouge added: "It's better that the federation is damaged rather than judo."

The crowd, who were upset over the original decision and jeered loudly, became even more vocal following the farcical overturn and Cho was afforded a standing ovation as he left the mat.

Already, during the sudden death golden score period, the referees commission had overturned the award of a winning score for Ebinuma by the judges -- the incident the commission then reminded the judges to consider in their later decision.

For the first time at the Olympics, video replay technology is being used to review contentious scoring but the over-rule of a judges decision following a draw has never been done before.

The federation later put out a statement trying to clarify its ruling.

"The International Judo Federation (IJF) is strongly committed to equity and, as part of our sport judo, to the development of all the tools that in our competitions help the referees to make the right decisions, so that the best fighters win.

"In order to achieve this, a video system was set up and has proved successful.

"The referee and the two judges of the fight, after having received the details from the experts commission, decided to change their decision and give victory to the Japanese.

"The IJF states that this is the final and right decision."

Former Milosevic aide takes power in Serbia, EU uneasy

BELGRADE (Reuters) - The former spokesman of late strongman Slobodan Milosevic took power in Serbia on Friday, telling Europe and the Balkans to forget the past and not fear the return of a political alliance that once led the country to war with NATO.

After 12 hours of heated debate, lawmakers in the 250-seat Serbian parliament voted 142 to 72 to endorse Socialist Party leader Ivica Dacic as prime minister at the helm of a coalition with nationalists.

The alliance condemns to the opposition benches the main reformers who ousted Milosevic in 2000, raising concern in the West that Serbia might veer from the path they took towards joining the European Union.

Dacic said EU membership was "a key goal", but that he would not be made to answer anymore for Serbia's dark past.

"If they say the word Balkan means 'blood and honey', there's been enough blood, it's time to feel the taste of honey too," the career politician told the assembly during a debate that ran late into the night.

"Serbia is offering the hand of reconciliation, to all. Let's not deal anymore with the past, let's deal with the future."

The West is closely scrutinizing Dacic's ascent to the most powerful post in Serbia - in alliance with President Tomislav Nikolic's nationalists - for any sign that the country may drift from the EU path chosen by the seven states carved from old federal Yugoslavia.

Nikolic and the Socialists last shared power at the close of Milosevic's disastrous 13-year rule, when his forces expelled almost 1 million ethnic Albanians from Kosovo and NATO bombed in 1999 to wrest the province from him.

Dacic, 46, was Milosevic's spokesman, railing against the West. He now says Serbia's future is in the EU, but Western diplomats admit to doubts over whether he is willing and able to carry out the political and economic reforms it will take.

"A key goal of this government will be the acceleration of European integration and maximum effort to secure a date for the start of accession talks," Dacic said.

KOSOVO CHALLENGE

His government inherits an economy sliding into recession, a jobless rate of 25 percent and a shrinking, ageing population scraping by on an average net monthly wage of 340 euros ($420).

In a speech that cited economists John Maynard Keynes and Paul Krugman and American industrialist Henry Ford, Dacic dismissed calls for "belt-tightening" at the cost of pensions and pay, saying only economic growth would bring down Serbia's growing debt burden of 55 percent of output.

The West says Serbia's progress towards EU membership rests on it coming to terms with the loss of Kosovo, an impoverished territory steeped in history and myth for many Serbs but recognized by almost half the world as independent.

Dacic said he was ready to continue EU-mediated talks with Kosovo aimed at "normalizing life for all citizens". But Serbia would never recognize it as independent, he said.

The EU says it won't have to, at least explicitly, but it will have to loosen its grip on a Serb-populated slice of Kosovo's north, and stop obstructing the country's development.

That will determine how quickly the EU opens accession talks, after making Serbia a candidate for membership in March.

Later on Friday, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule welcomed the new Serbian government but warned about the need for reforms and dialogue with Kosovo.

In a joint statement Ashton and Fule said they "expect the new government to continue to deliver on the European integration agenda, regional cooperation and reconciliation, including ... early resumption of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and swift implementation of the agreements reached."

Ex-Yugoslav republic Slovenia joined the EU in 2004. Croatia is next in 2013 and Montenegro began talks last month.

Dacic was interior minister in the last government with the reformist Democratic Party from 2008, until voters punished the Democrats for perceived elitism and an economic downturn.

The new coalition includes the technocrat United Regions bloc, whose leader Mladjan Dinkic becomes finance minister. Trying to settle markets, Dinkic says Serbia will revive a frozen loan deal with the International Monetary Fund.

Health campaigners are urging the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to ban junk food and fizzy drink brands from future sporting sponsorship deals in a critical new report which says the committee has squandered the chance to create a positive health legacy from the London 2012 Games.

The Obesity Games report, published by The Childrens? Food Campaign (CFC), found that corporate sponsorship accounts for less than 10% of the total funding for the London 2012 Games, while fast food sponsors contribute only about 2% of the IOC income. Yet the major sponsors Coca-Cola, McDonald?s and Cadbury are given an unrivalled platform to promote their unhealthy brands and products, it says.

The CFC is calling for the IOC to help tackle rising obesity levels by setting conditions on promoting healthy eating in their sponsorship deals and for junk food brands to be excluded.

The findings will trigger fresh criticism of the stranglehold on food and drink at the Games held by sponsors Cadbury, McDonald?s (its largest restaurant in the world is in the Olympic Park) and Coca-Cola, which is expected to serve 23m soft drinks at the Games due to its near-monopoly at Olympic venues.

CFC co-ordinator Malcolm Clark said: ?The Olympics have become a celebration of ?big?. For the junk food companies who sponsor the Games, that means big restaurants, big audiences, big brand value, big profits. But for children that could also mean bigger waistlines and bigger health problems later in life.?

He said the IOC could decide to cut out the top-tier category of food and soft drink partners entirely and lose little more than 2% of its total income.

Coca-Cola said: ?As one of the longest, continuous sponsors of the Olympic movement, we are proud that we are able to use our sponsorship to enable millions of people to experience the Games and believe we have a valid role to play. As well as sharing expertise, our financial support helps to stage London 2012, and without the support of the presenting partners the Olympic torch relay would not be able to take the magic of the Games to people in their own communities.

?People consume many different foods and drinks, so no one single food or drink alone is responsible for people being overweight or obese. We believe all of our drinks can be enjoyed as part of an active, healthy lifestyle that includes a sensible, balanced diet and regular physical activity.?

McDonald?s said: ?Sponsorship is essential to the successful staging of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and we?re proud of our involvement with London 2012.?

Ian Barber, the director of communications at the Advertising Association, said: ?Much analysis has been done about advertising?s link with our obesity problem. Prof David Buckingham ? an independent expert ? sums it up when he says, ?the impact, if any, is small?.?
